| High School Scholarships These scholarships are given through a student's high school usually when they graduate. If you are a high school student and would like more information regarding scholarships you may be eligible for through your school, please contact your schools scholarship counselor in the counseling office. They will be able to give you the most current information regarding the policies at your school. Our scholarship office process high school scholarships.
If you have received a high school scholarship and would like to use it
here at COS please bring a completed enrollment verification form to our
scholarship office and we will request the funds from the donor. Once
we receive funds for your scholarship we can forward the funds to you College of the Sequoias administers numerous scholarships every year through what is known as institutional scholarships. These are scholarships that individuals, groups, businesses, or organizations have designated for COS students. These scholarships could be for incoming COS freshman, COS continuing students, or COS transfer students to a 4-year college/university. Each year we publish a scholarship directory listing the scholarships that are available along with the criteria for each scholarship. Students fill out an application for these scholarships. Selection for these scholarships is made by the COS scholarship
selection committee. Scholarships are awarded annually. The application
process usually begins in the first week of December and closes in the
first week in February. Just as COS administers our institutional scholarships, most college/universities have similar programs available for their students. Please contact the scholarship office at any institution that you may be interested in attending to get specific information regarding application procedures at that school. Each office will have their own application period and process. Plan early! Some schools require applications a year or
more in advance for their scholarships. It is always a good idea to get
information as early as possible and be prepared instead of missing a
deadline by a few days. "Outside" scholarships refers to a broad range of scholarships that are not connected with any institution. In fact they are also referred to as "non-institutional" scholarships. These are set up by the donor (an individual, group, business, civic or religious organization, or employers) according to a set of criteria published with the scholarship. Traditionally, information for these scholarships was hard to find or available in magazines or books that had to be purchased and might or might have scholarships suited to you. Another way to get information regarding these scholarship was to pay a scholarship search service a fee to research scholarships you might be eligible for. The days where you needed to pay for these services are gone. Today, the Internet has changed the way students are able to find scholarship information. Now there are websites that index huge local and national databases that track scholarships and scholarship criteria. All a student needs to do is fill out a free on-line application. THIS INFORMATION IS 100% FREE. We have a list of sites that provide this type of service for students. After you check out these sources you may also might want to check out the Scholarship Office Bulletin board. Throughout the school year our bulletin board is updated
with outside scholarship information that is sent to us by the donors.
Our bulletin board is located in the hallway next to the Health Center.
The Scholarships posted on the Bulletin Board are local and national scholarships
which have no affiliation with our scholarship office, but are posted
for the benefit of our students. Scholarships disbursed at COS come from many sources including: our COS scholarships, high school scholarships, organizations, clubs, and individuals. When you receive a scholarship that you wish to use at College of the Sequoias, you must request that scholarship by filling out an enrollment verification form. This form enables our office to verify that you meet the criteria of the scholarship you have been awarded and, if necessary, to request that the scholarship funds be transferred from the donor to COS. There are two enrolment verification forms. One form is to be filled out by Incoming COS Students or Continuing COS Students. The other is to be filled out by former COS Students that have transferred to a 4-year college/university. Please be sure that you fill out the appropriate form. Transfer students need to fill out the first three sections and have a school official complete the form by verifying GPA and enrollment status at the transfer school. These forms need to be completed and returned to our office. As we receive the enrollment verification forms we will process them as quickly as possible. Some possible causes of delay in receiving scholarship funds are: Funds have not been received from the donor. Until our
office receives funds, we are unable to disburse a scholarship; If you have any questions regarding the process of receiving your scholarship, please contact our office.
